Safeguarding at Iceni Academy

All members of staff and volunteers take our responsibility to keep children safe very seriously. We have designated persons who oversee this task and our policies are kept up to date. All staff are given a copy of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and are regularly trained to ensure all staff are up to date in their understanding of their responsibilities and protocol for meeting these. All volunteers also receive regular training and both staff and volunteers are DBS checked and partake in PREVENT training when first joining our team.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Leaders understand their safeguarding responsibilities.  They carry out the appropriate checks on adults who work at, or are regular visitors to the school.  The record of these checks is carefully maintained.  Staff are well trained in the latest information about safeguarding pupils.  They know how to spot the signs that pupils may be at risk.

Pupils have adults they can talk to if they are worried about anything.  Pupils told us that they feel well supported.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass was developed in 2012 by a Police Sergeant and his wife, a Head teacher of a primary school in Plymouth. They would regularly discuss the impact that domestic violence would have on children and how their school would be able to offer support if they were made aware following incident. As a result of these conversations, they developed Operation Encompass: a system to provide early notification to Key Adults within the schools when a pupil has been affected by Domestic Violence (DV) in the last 24 hours. In response to a notification, the school would then ensure the appropriate support would be available for that child. This support could be overt or silent support.

Norfolk’s aim is to notify all schools of domestic violence incidents that have occurred within the last 24 hours; this will include High, Medium and Standard DV incidents. These notifications will be made via telephone to a nominated Key Adult at the school before 9am the following day.

E-Safety

E-Safe is the unique service that’s designed to protect students and staff from safeguarding risks – with a unique triple-lock approach to monitoring all activity on IT devices.

Established in 2009, they were pioneers in the monitoring sector and have been setting the highest standards ever since. The innovative service is constantly evolving to keep pace with the increasing demands placed on education leaders to know exactly what is occurring within their establishments. Not only does eSafe protect students and staff from the growing list of potentially harmful or inappropriate behaviours, it also removes the heavy and time-consuming burden from education leaders.
