At Iceni Primary, we teach children about their emotions and feelings using Zones of Regulation.
The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum framework organised around four coloured Zones to describe our feelings, energy, and emotions. We learn to regulate our Zones to meet our goals and task demands, as well as support our overall well-being.
Learners benefit from:
· Increased self-awareness and social and emotional skills
· A common language for communication, problem solving, and emotional understanding
· More time spent on learning instead of on behaviour management
· A healthier, more inclusive school climate
How to use zones of regulation at home?
How to support your child to regulate their emotions:
1. Empathise with them and validate what they are feeling.
2. Help them calm down using a strategy.
3. When they are out of the red zone, talking to them about their behaviour, give consequences if appropriate, and then identify what they should do next time they feel angry.
We have added a set of training slides which provides more information about The Zones of Regulation. Please speak to your child’s class teacher for more information
